Tiffany Stone Cabochon

"Tiffany stone" is a trade name used for a rare purple, blue and white gem material that can be cut and polished. It is mined at one location worldwide - the Brush Wellman beryllium mine, at Spor Mountain, western Utah. Geologically, Tiffany stone is a rock composed primarily of fluorite with smaller amounts of opal, calcite, dolomite, quartz, chalcedony, bertrandite and other materials.

This Tiffany Stone is most appropriate for earrings, pendants and other jewelry that is not exposed to impact or abrasion; not recommended for rings or bracelets.
Flat, matte finish back with a beveled edge for ease of setting. You will receive the exact gemstone shown in the pictures. (US penny is approximately 19.02 mm diameter; shown for size comparison only.)

Weight: 13.95 carats
Millimeters: 25.64 L x 18.25 W x 5.31 H

Gem Species: Fluorite-Opal
—Variety: —
Phenomenal: no; no play-of-color
Trade Name(s): Tiffany Stone, Opalized Fluorite, Ice Cream Stone, Bertrandite^, Opalite*

^ Using the term “bertrandite” as the name of this material is incorrect. Bertrandite is itself a mineral and only comprises a few percent of the rock known as Tiffany stone.

* Using the term "opalite" to describe natural non-phenomenal (no play-of-color) common opal is deceptive and a punishable crime under US Federal Trade Commission regulations. Opalite is a man-made glass; it is neither synthetic opal nor natural opal.
